Pennsylvania health officials reported 1,334 new cases of covid-19 and 64 more deaths as of Saturday morning, bringing the statewide coronavirus death toll to 2,418.

Hospitals now are treating 2,673 patients with the disease, and 555 people are on ventilators — six fewer patients than were on ventilators as of Friday, state health department data show.

Sixteen covid-19 patients are on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, or ECMO, life support machines.

About two-thirds of the confirmed deaths — 1,614 — have involved residents at nursing homes or other senior care facilities.

Total positive cases of the coronavirus disease climbed to 48,305, with cases confirmed in all 67 of the state’s counties.

Nearly 3,000 covid-19 cases involve health care workers.

Nearly 10,000 cases affected people at nursing homes, including 8,827 residents and 1,148 employees across 478 facilities in 44 counties. State officials are not providing the data breakdown for each facility.

Between Thursday and Friday, the state reported 1,208 new cases and 62 more deaths.

Pennsylvania remains under a stay-at-home order while Gov. Tom Wolf uses a metric-based system for a gradual reopening set to begin next week. Non-life-sustaining businesses in at least 24 counties are scheduled to reopen starting on Friday.

“As we see the number of new covid-19 cases continuously change across the state, that does not mean we can stop practicing social distancing,” Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine said. “If you must go out, please make as few trips as possible and wear a mask to protect not only yourself but others.”

No children in Pennsylvania have died from the disease.
