Pennsylvania’s covid numbers continue to decline, as the state Department of Health’s latest report shows cases on average have dropped more than 50% since last month.
The state reported 3,345 new cases Thursday, with 2,250 of those confirmed through 12,240 new PCR tests. Officials said 1,095 cases were listed as probable. Health officials define a probable case as one in which a patient has a positive viral antigen test or covid symptoms with a “high-risk exposure” to someone who has been confirmed to have coronavirus.
The state’s seven-day average of new cases dropped to 3,104, which is 43% lower than they were on Feb. 1 (5,459) and 52% lower than one month ago (6,527).
From Thursday’s report, Philadelphia County had the most new cases with 432. It was followed by Bucks (249), Allegheny (247), Montgomery (211) and Lancaster (181).
Among other Western Pennsylvania counties: Westmoreland (92), Erie (58), Beaver (42), Butler (39), Washington (35), Fayette (24), Lawrence (20), Armstrong (15), Indiana (12) and Somerset (12).
In licensed nursing and personal care homes, there have been 65,817 resident cases of covid-19, and 12,755 cases among employees.
Health officials reported 94 new covid-related deaths Thursday, putting the state’s death toll at 23,413. Philadelphia is the county that accounts for the highest number of deaths with 3,065, followed by Allegheny (1,666), Montgomery (1,506), Delaware (1,211) and Bucks (1,104).
Death counts for counties in Western Pennsylvania include: Westmoreland (657), Butler (360), Beaver (341), Fayette (257), Washington (249), Somerset (187), Lawrence (178), Indiana (155) and Armstrong (115).
Health officials report that 1.3 million state residents have received at least one dose of a covid vaccine, with just over 436,000 individuals have received both shots.
According to the Open Data PA website Thursday, there are 2,124 Pennsylvanians hospitalized for covid-19, with 467 are in intensive care units and 255 on ventilators.
Since the pandemic began last year, there have been 905,995 cases among Pennsylvania residents, with 781,888 of them confirmed positive through PCR tests and 124,107 categorized as probable.
