Pennsylvania adds 791 new covid-19 cases, 15 new deaths to total

Pennsylvania reported 791 more coronavirus cases as of Thursday, according to the state Department of Health.

There were also 15 new deaths from covid-19 reported in the state.

Two of the past three days have seen case increases of 700 or more, with 791 new cases Thursday and 735 new cases Tuesday. In that same span, reported deaths have stayed less consistent, with 15 new deaths Thursday, 24 on Wednesday and 31 on Tuesday.

Total cases in the state now sit at 126,940, with 123,364 confirmed and 3,576 probable. Pennsylvania’s coronavirus death total is 7,538.

As of Thursday, 14,892 covid-19 cases and 349 deaths have been reported in August.

As of Thursday, there were 548 coronavirus patients hospitalized in the state, with 94 requiring ventilation, according to the health department’s covid-19 dashboard.

Per state estimates, 80% of Pennsylvania’s coronavirus cases are considered to be recovered. An individuals is considered to be “recovered” if a case has not been reported as a death and it is more than 30 days past the date of their first positive test.

New cases reported on the 20th of the month have been in the 700 range in three of the past four months. In addition to the 791 new cases reported Thursday (Aug. 20), 711 cases were reported July 20 and 746 cases were reported May 20.
