Pennsylvania adds 672 new covid cases, 11 new deaths

There were 672 new cases of coronavirus announced in Pennsylvania on Monday, according to a report from the state’s Department of Health.

In the past seven days, 7,381 covid cases have been added to the state’s total of 164,207. It’s the fourth day the seven-day total has surpassed 7,000 cases, something Pennsylvania hasn’t seen since early May.

The state reported 11 new coronavirus-related deaths, bringing the total in the state to 8,227.

The number of tests administered within the last 7 days between September 28 and October 4 is 187,158 with 7,385 positive cases. There were 18,466 test results reported to the department through 10 p.m., October 4. These results represent the total number of tests administered.

The age group with the highest case count remains those ages 25-49 with 36% of the cases. They are followed by those over 65 (22%). Other age breakdowns include ages 50-64 (21%), ages 19-24 (14%), ages 13-18 (5%), pages 5-12 (2%) and ages 0-4 (1%).

According to the state’s covid-19 tracking website, there are currently 594 Pennsylvanians hospitalized with the virus, with 75 of them on ventilators. According to the state, there are 4,967 operational ventilators in the state, with 1,090 (22%) currently in use for all illnesses.

Among 993 distinct nursing and personal care homes in Pennsylvania, the state says they have been 23,312 resident cases of covid-19, with 5,175 cases among employees.

The state said about 11,003 of the total cases have occurred among health care workers.

Philadelphia County led the state with the most new cases Monday (76). The next highest case count was found in Allegheny County (46), followed by Westmoreland (45), Delaware (30) and Bucks (29).

The state has tested a total of 2,105,159 individuals for covid-19, with 92.2% (1,940,952) testing negative.
