Pennsylvania adds 426 new covid cases, 1 new death
On Monday, Pennsylvania added the second lowest number of new cases of coronavirus since mid-July.
The state’s Department of Health added 426 new covid-19 cases, with 415 of them confirmed and 11 probable. The state reports 157,052 tests were conducted from Aug. 17-23, producing 4,588 positive cases.
The state added only 1 covid-related death — in Cumberland County — bringing its total to 7,579 since the pandemic began in March.
Of those residents testing positive, the largest portion (38%) are in the 25-49 age range, with 24% age 65 and older and 23% ages 50-64.
The state said there are have been 20,730 resident cases of covid-19, and 4,394 cases among employees in the state’s 919 nursing and personal care homes.
Out of our the state’s total deaths, nearly 68% (5,127) have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.
According to the state’s covid-19 tracking website, there are 518 state residents currently hospitalized for the virus, with 71 of them on ventilators.
Of the state’s 67 counties, Philadelphia posted the most new covid-19 cases (67) on Monday, followed by Montgomery (42), Berks (33), Delaware (33) and Allegheny (29). There were 23 counties without any new cases on Monday.
Philadelphia County continues to have the most cases overall, with 28,372, followed by Montgomery (10,755) and Delaware (10,078). Allegheny County (9,932) is fourth, while Westmoreland County ranks 15th (1,740).
In all, Pennsylvania has seen 129,474 cases of coronavirus since the pandemic began in March. Since then, a total of 1,562,838 Pennsylvanians have been tested for the virus, with 1,433,364 testing negative, for a 91.8% negativity rate.
