Morning Roundup: Pa. Turnpike Commission warns of E-ZPass scam; Jagr bobblehead update
Here are some of the latest news items from this morning, Monday, April 8:
Pa. Turnpike Commission warns of E-ZPass scam
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is warning E-ZPass customers about a phishing scam targeting users with text messages asking for personal financial information.
The texts say they’re from “PA Turnpike Toll Services” and include “urgent requests” about the accounts’ overdue balance and coming late fees, according to a release from the Turnpike Commission.
The commission advises customers not to click on the link if they receive a text or email message saying it’s from E-ZPass or another toll agency. The Turnpike does not use text messages to collect tolls.
Similar scams have been reported by toll agencies across the country in recent days, the statement said.
E-ZPass customers have multiple approved options to check their accounts — the official PA Turnpike E-ZPass website or the PA Toll Pay app from the Apple App Store or Google Play store.
Customers who get a fraudulent message can report it to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov.
More dates to redeem Jaromir Jagr bobblehead vouchers
The Pittsburgh Penguins released a statement detailing more dates for fans to pick up their Jaromir Jagr bobbleheads.
The bobbleheads were stolen in California ahead of the team’s March 14 game against the San Jose Sharks where they were supposed to be given to Penguins fans in Pittsburgh.
Some bobblehead vouchers were redeemed by fans during Saturday’s game and a drive-in pickup event held on Sunday.
The Penguins said fans who still need to pick up their bobblehead can do so at the following games:
• Thursday, April 11, 2024 vs. Detroit Red Wings
• Saturday, April 13, 2024 vs. Boston Bruins
• Monday, April 15, 2024 vs. Nashville Predators
A table will be set up at the First National Bank Gate to help fans during those games. Fans can also go to PPG Paints Arena between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday starting April 16 through May 1 to pick up their bobbleheads in person.
