Pa. reports 77 covid deaths, 5,341 cases

Pennsylvania reported 5,341 additional covid-18 cases and 77 deaths Tuesday, according to the state Department of Health.

The state now has 777,186 total covid cases and 19,467 total deaths. In January thus far, there have been 136,861 cases and 3,489 deaths reported.

Tuesday’s case count is the second lowest in the past week. Cases in January reached highs of 10,000+ cases on back-to-back days Jan. 8 and Jan. 9 but have not reached those levels since. Since Jan. 9, the most cases reported were 7,960 on Jan. 13.

The seven-day average of daily cases is 6,251 and seven-day case count is 43,757 as of Tuesday, both lows for those statistics in January so far.

Deaths reported Tuesday were the fewest reported in about two weeks, when 66 were reported Jan. 4. Of the deaths reported Tuesday, 53 are from January, 22 are from December and two are from November.

In the state, there are 4,593 covid-19 patients hospitalized as of Tuesday, with 918 in the ICU and 564 on ventilators, according to the DOH covid dashboard. There are 657 ICU and 3,287 medical/surgical beds available, 17% and 16% of those beds, respectively.
