Over 2 days, Pennsylvania adds over 2,250 new covid cases, 24 new deaths
Pennsylvania saw 2,254 new coronavirus cases over the past two days — 1,166 on Sunday, 1,088 on Monday — according to a report from state Department of Health on Monday.
The state said 239,484 tests were conducted from Oct. 5-11, with 9,117 positives found.
Six new covid-related deaths were reported from Sunday, with 18 new deaths on Monday. To date, 8,368 Pennsylvanians have died with covid-related deaths. Of the 24 deaths, 19 are from October, one from August, three from July, one from June and one from April. The state also removed one death from May.
In nursing and personal care homes, there are 23,953 resident cases of covid-19, with 5,289 cases among employees, for a total of 29,242 at 1,007 distinct facilities in 61 counties.
The state said about 11,345 of the total cases in Pennsylvania are among health care workers.
The age breakdown of all cases in the state are as follows:
- Approximately 1% are ages 0-4
- Nearly 2% are ages 5-12
- Nearly 5% are ages 13-18
- Nearly 14% are ages 19-24
- Nearly 36% are ages 25-49
- Approximately 21% are ages 50-64
- Approximately 21% are ages 65 or older
According to the state’s covid-19 tracking website, there are 725 Pennsylvanians currently hospitalized with the virus, with 81 of them on ventilators. According to the state, there are 4,989 operational ventilators in the county, with 1,103 (22%) currently in use for all illnesses.
Over the past two days, Philadelphia County had the most new cases (280), followed by Allegheny (179), Westmoreland (142), Centre (112), Delaware (97) and Berks (93). Only two counties — Cameron and Sullivan — posted no new cases of coronavirus in that time.
Since the pandemic began in March, 173,304 individuals in Pennsylvania have tested positive for the virus, with 2,044,706 residents testing negative.
In a report issued Monday, the state reminded residents that mask-wearing is required in all businesses and whenever leaving home.
