For just 2nd time in 2021, Pa. reports new covid deaths in single digits

Pennsylvania reported seven additional covid-19 deaths Tuesday, per the state Department of Health.

The deaths reported Tuesday increase the state’s death total to 23,126, with 1,465 deaths reported in February.

Only once before this year have health officials reported such a low number of new covid-related deaths: Feb. 8 when four deaths were reported. The last time single digits death had been reported before February was in early November.

Hospitalizations for covid-19 on Tuesday decreased to 2,356, down from 2,447 on Monday. The high for hospitalizations this month was 3,281 on Feb 2. The high for hospitalizations in 2021 was 5,684 on Jan. 5.

The state’s covid case total increased to 899,237 cases Tuesday, with 2,377 additional cases reported. In February, 56,013 cases have been reported. The seven-day average for cases has dropped to 3,189, the lowest it has been this year.

In Western Pennsylvania, Allegheny and Westmoreland counties reported the most additional cases Tuesday. Allegheny reported 199 cases, while Westmoreland reported 98 cases.
