The search for a missing Western Pennsylvania woman last seen in the Harrisburg area and deemed a homicide victim was concentrated Friday along two creeks in northern York County.
Susquehanna Township police sent out a thank you via Crimewatch on Monday that expressed “its sincere gratitude for the agencies, organizations, and individuals who dedicated their time and energy in the search for homicide victim Tracy Scanlon, also known as Tracy Zalenski, on May 3, 2024, in York County.
“Participants used every piece of technology and equipment at their disposal, as well as sheer willpower, to scour the land, water and air for any sign of Tracy,” it read.
On Friday, Susquehanna Township police said they believe that Scanlon, who has not contacted family or friends since February, was the victim of a homicide.
For nearly seven hours, according to the police department’s, around 100 people searched about 10 miles of the Little Conewago and Conewago creeks. The search began in Conewago Township and ended in York Haven.
She was not found, although police said they would continue the search and “are committed to solving Tracy’s homicide, prosecuting a suspect(s) and finding her body, in hopes of bringing some semblance of respite to her family.”
Scanlon left Allegheny County on Feb. 7 and was going to the Harrisburg area with plans to return to Pittsburgh on March 1, police said. The last time anyone has had contact with her was on Feb. 20, according to police.
She was last seen in late February leaving a Dauphin County wine and liquor store, police said.
Scanlon’s daughter reported her missing to Millvale police in Allegheny County earlier this year after not hearing from her in a few weeks, according to police Chief Tim Komoroski. The daughter told Millvale police that Scanlon said she was moving to Dauphin County to be with her boyfriend, who already lived there, the chief said.
Komoroski said the family has little information about Scanlon’s boyfriend.
The daughter said she had sent money to her mother that was not received and there was no activity on Scanlon’s social media accounts, according to Komoroski.
Susquehanna Township police are working with law enforcement agencies in Allegheny County.
