A Bethel Park man shot by a police officer serving an arrest warrant Wednesday night is charged with aggravated assault and resisting arrest, according to Allegheny County Police.

Officers went to an apartment complex along Dorchester Drive at 10 p.m. Wednesday to serve William Adam, 45, an arrest warrant related to a domestic incident that occurred earlier that day at the apartment, county police said.

The door to Adam’s unit was partially barricaded, county police said. Once officers could see into the apartment, they saw Adam pointing a firearm at them.

Officers retreated from the door, county police said. Adam stepped into the hallway of the apartment building multiple times, still holding the firearm, before an officer shot at him.

Adam was taken to a local hospital in stable condition, county police said.

A Bethel Park dispatcher told TribLive on Thursday morning that all statements on the incident will be issued by Allegheny County Police. Bethel Park Police Chief Dave Arnold did not respond to an email requesting comment early Thursday morning.

The county’s homicide unit is investigating.

Anyone with information on the incident can call 1-833-ALL-TIPS (255-8477) to reach the county police tip line. Callers can remain anonymous.
