A woman was hospitalized Friday after a Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus hit her in South South Flats.

The “roughly college-aged” woman, who Pittsburgh Regional Transit did not name, suffered a head injury, neck pain and scrapes on her elbow after the 83-Bedford Hills bus hit her around 3 p.m., transit spokesman Adam Brandolph said. Police cleared the scene by 3:35 p.m.

Three passengers were riding the bus at the time of the accident, which occurred near the intersection of East Carson and 20th streets, Brandolph said. No passengers were injured.

The woman was taken in stable condition Friday afternoon to UPMC Mercy hospital, Brandolph said.

The Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus driver, who the agency also did not identify, will be screened for drug and alcohol use, which is the agency’s protocol, Brandolph said.

Port Authority police are investigating. Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Cara Cruz on Friday forwarded inquiries to that department.

The 83-Bedford Hills line, which was running on time Friday afternoon, serves Oakland, South Side and Downtown Pittsburgh, Brandolph said.
