Pine officials gather after the April 21, 2025, supervisors meeting: (from left) township Manager Jason Kratsas; Bruce Hezlep, director of public safety; Audrey Mackie, supervisor vice chair; Chris Dell, chief of McCandless Franklin Park Ambulance Authority; Tom Hudak, new fire chief of Wexford Volunteer Fire Company; Bryan DeWick, police chief of Northern Tier Regional Police Department; Pat Avolio, supervisor; and Ryan Colombo, supervisor chair.

Wexford Volunteer Fire Company in Pine has a new fire chief.

After five years in the role, Chris Ausefski decided to step down as chief to spend more time with his family. He remains with the company through his involvement in the EMS program.

Following Ausefski’s resignation, a special election was held March 6 to select his replacement. The company chose Tom Hudak.

Hudak, who joined the Wexford Volunteer Fire Company in 2020, previously served with the Presto Volunteer Fire Department and Bethel Park Volunteer Fire Company.

At Wexford, Hudak advanced through the ranks of lieutenant and captain and served as vice president and training officer.

As chief, he looks forward to working with Pine residents, local officials and first responders to enhance public safety and strengthen community partnerships.

Hudak attended the Pine supervisors meeting April 21 to present his first departmental report as chief.

Hudak spoke about the importance of strengthening the company’s ranks with new members at the meeting. He said the fire company responded to 186 calls in March.

“Chief Hudak has been a dedicated member of our community for many years, and his commitment to public safety is truly inspiring. His service reflects a deep passion for protecting and supporting our residents, and we’re proud to have someone with his experience and heart stepping into the role of fire chief,” township Manager Jason Kratsas said. “We look forward to the positive impact his leadership will continue to have on both the department and the township as a whole.”
