Not since June 16 has Westmoreland County seen a day with so few new reported new cases of covid-19.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health announced two new cases of coronavirus were added to the county’s total, which now stands at 1,555. Both of those new cases were confirmed.

It’s the smallest new case count since the department added just one new case on June 16. In that 56-day span, Westmoreland County has seen only 10 days with single-digit new case counts.

For the first time in 12 days, the county saw another coronavirus-related death added to its total, bringing the toll now to 47.

According to the state’s covid-19 tracking website, there are currently eight Westmoreland County residents in the hospital for the virus, with one of them on a ventilator.

Back on June 16, Westmoreland County’s seven-day case average was at 4 new cases per day; since then, it quickly soared to 32 by July 8. The county’s current seven-day average of new cases per day stands at 13.
