Westmoreland happenings: Strawberry festival, shredding event, basket bazaar, more

Fundraisers

• The Braddock Trail Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution will sponsor a basket bazaar June 1 at Kecksburg Volunteer Fire Hall, 5128 Water St., Mt. Pleasant Township. Doors open at noon and ticket drawings will begin at 1:30 p.m. Children 16 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Cost: $15, includes 25 basket raffle tickets, a door prize chance and refreshments. There will be a 50-50 raffle and separate high-end raffle baskets. Must be present to win. Kecksburg Volunteer Firemen’s Auxiliary will sell a limited lunch menu. Proceeds benefit the DAR’s historic renovation project. A limited number of tickets will be sold at the door. • West Newton First Church of God will have a Strawberry Festival from 4 to 7 p.m. May 23 at Sewickley Grange, Route 136, Sewickley Township. Menu: homemade sandwiches, salads and strawberries. Dine in or takeout.

Meeting

• Rostraver Sportsmen and Conservation Association will meet at 7:30 p.m. May 20 at the club, 539 Cedar Creek Road, Rostraver. Membership applications from men and women welcome. Details: 724-984-6611 or rostraversca.org.

Senior Citizen News

• Irwin Senior Activity Center, 310 Oak St., will have Red, White and Blue bingo at 12:15 p.m. May 21. The center will be closed May 22 for a blood drive. Details: 724-787-1760 or mumsest@aol.com.

Special Event

• A free mobile shredding event will be from 4 to 6 p.m. May 23 at the office of Rep. Jill Cooper, Donal Plaza, 105 Pfeffer Road, Suite 5, Washington Township. Residents can bring two bags or boxes of personal documents for shredding. Books, magazines and items in metal binding materials other than staples cannot be shredded. No businesses please. There will also be a food drive to benefit the Westmoreland Food Bank. Optional donations of non-perishable food items that are not in glass containers will be accepted. Details: 724-387-9113.

Submissions from nonprofit organizations for Briefly Speaking should be emailed to cpinto-smith@triblive.com. Include a complete address and daytime phone number. Submissions are due at least two weeks prior to the event. Each announcement is printed once; there is no fee.
