Westmoreland County sets another record with 90 new cases Monday, 2 deaths

Westmoreland County had 90 more covid-19 cases added in the past 24 hours Monday, with another 52 cases reported on Sunday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The new numbers are another record set for the county of nearly 349,000 residents. Over the past two days, Westmoreland County had the third highest number of new cases (142) in the state, behind only Philadelphia (280) and Allegheny (179) counties.

Since the beginning of October, Westmoreland County’s seven-day case total has increased nearly 200% — from 149 to 443 currently. Since the pandemic began in March, a total of 2,904 residents have tested positive for the virus.

On Monday, the state announced two new deaths in the county, making 64 Westmoreland County residents who have died of covid-related illnesses.

Of the 142 cases over the past 48 hours, 108 cases have been confirmed, 34 are probable.

According to the state’s covid-19 tracking website, there are 34 residents of Westmoreland County currently hospitalized with the virus, with two of them on ventilators. According to the state, there are 88 operational ventilators in the county, with 11 (12.5%) currently in use for all illnesses.
