Westmoreland County sees highest 7-day covid-19 case total, reaches 2,500 cases

Westmoreland County reached its highest seven-day covid-19 case total after Tuesday’s new reported cases.

The county has 39 new cases Tuesday, bringing the total to 240 cases over the past seven days. Total cases now stand at 2,500.

No new deaths were reported Tuesday, leaving the death total at 57.

Currently, there are 20 covid-19 patients hospitalized in the county, none of which are on ventilators.

Coronavirus infections in Westmoreland County jumped by nearly 600 cases over the past month, which county and state officials said Monday was attributed to general community spread. State health officials listed the county among 46 with moderate transmission levels for the virus.

With the county hitting 2,500 covid-19 cases, here’s a breakdown of when cases reached or surpassed milestone numbers:

500 cases - June 18

1,000 cases - July 13

1,500 cases - Aug. 7

2,000 cases - Sept. 16

2,500 cases - Oct. 6
