The Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office said a Hempfield man was killed in a crash along Route 30 in Ligonier Township Tuesday morning.

Jason R. Zollinger, 38, died when the bicycle he was riding eastbound on Route 30 was struck by car at about 9:15 a.m. The coroner’s office did not identify the driver of the car.

The cause and manner of Zollinger’s death will not be available until autopsy and toxicology reports are available, according to the coroner’s office.

A section of Route 30 between Somerset and Westmoreland counties was closed for more than two hours because of the crash, which occurred on top of Laurel Mountain in Ligonier Township. The highway reopened around 12:30 p.m.

The Westmoreland County Coroner’s office, Ligonier Valley, and state police responded to the scene of the crash.

Multiple fire departments had stopped eastbound and westbound traffic between Laughlintown and Jenner Township along the highway stretch on the Laurel Mountain summit while officials investigated.
