The Pennsylvania Turnpike will be closed for about five hours early Sunday between the Pittsburgh and Irwin interchanges as crews remove a bridge.
The closure is planned from 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m., depending on the weather.
Crews have been working to replace the bridge that previously carried Trafford-Murrysville Road over the toll road at milepost 59.6 in preparation for a widening project.
The recommended 22-mile detour will take motorists east on Route 22, south on Toll Route 66 and west on Route 30.
The $300 million widening project — set to begin in 2023 — will increase the turnpike from four to six lanes along the 10-mile stretch between the Irwin interchange and the Pittsburgh interchange at Monroeville.
