After being closed for more than a year because of the pandemic, Cafe Marchand at The Westmoreland Museum of American Art will reopen Wednesday.

The cafe will offer grab-and-go service with a limited beverage and snack menu. Because of covid-19 restrictions, food and beverages cannot be consumed inside the Greensburg museum, but visitors are invited to enjoy their food and beverages, weather permitting, outside in the Jack & Anne Robertshaw Family Gardens or on the newly covered Swank Terrace.

The menu will include four signature café drinks, select pastries from Sun Dawg Café, Red Ribbon Sodas from Natrona Bottling Co., beer and wine options, biscotti and individually packaged sweet and savory snacks. The Westmoreland also is partnering with Yumzio Bistro in downtown Greensburg for more robust breakfast, lunch, and dinner selections, including vegetarian and vegan options.

Yumzio Bistro’s menu and online ordering will be accessible through a QR code found on signs at the terrace patio tables. By scanning the code with a smartphone, visitors can order from the bistro and have food delivered directly to the museum.

Visitors also are welcome to use a delivery service of their choice to order from other nearby restaurants to eat on the museum grounds.

Rotating menu

Café Marchand will offer a rotating menu of seasonal craft beers and house wines, along with four signature drinks, referred to as “The Permanent Collection,” that will be available year-round: Impressionist Cold Brew, Art Deco Latte, Op Art Macchiato and Modern Chai Tea Latte. The Café also will have “Temporarily on Brew” seasonal beverages, including an Abstract Matcha Colada and a Cubist Campfire Latte for spring.

Sweet and savory snacks will include assorted Scamps Toffee, Aunt Anna’s Biscotti and grab-and-go items like chips, hummus and single-serve, meat-and-cheese plates.

“The choice to feature Yumzio Bistro on our Terrace tables was for three reasons,” said Randall Oaks, director of visitor experiences and events. “First, Yumzio is right down the street and in close proximity to the museum. Second, during these difficult times for restaurants, we wanted to support a downtown Greensburg establishment. Third, Yumzio’s website makes it extremely easy for individuals to order online for delivery.”

“I’ve enjoyed working with (the museum) in the past, and this gives visitors the option to try some different cuisines — and not just for myself, but to see who’s still open and what we’re offering,” said Yumzio Bistro owner Taylor Kalasky. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to eat on the terrace. It’s quiet and out of the way, and it’s really pretty up there.”

Beginning Wednesday, Café Marchand will be open during The Westmoreland’s regular hours, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday at 221 N. Main St.

“People may walk in during museum hours to buy from the Café. However, the Shop/Café area does have a limit on how many people may be in that space at one time,” said Maggie Geier, manager of communications. “So, if it would become very busy, a visitor may be asked to wait in the lobby area.”

Admission to the museum remains free. Advance registration is required to tour the galleries. For information on registering for a visit and covid-19 safety policies and procedures, visit thewestmoreland.org.

“Before or after exploring the galleries, we hope our visitors relax and unwind in the gardens or on the terrace, where they can eat a meal al fresco with a spectacular view of downtown Greensburg,” Oaks said.
