The 2024 Greensburg concert series SummerSounds opens June 7 in its first year under new management.
SummerSounds concerts are held Fridays throughout the summer, with main artists taking the Robertshaw Amphitheater stage, supported by pre-show musicians.
In March, the SummerSounds volunteer arts organization made its merger with the Greensburg Community Development Corp. official. According to Gene James, SummerSounds co-founder, board president and longtime event organizer, the merger will help ensure the summer concerts, which garnered about 41,000 visitors last year, continue for years to come.
GCDC events manager Anna McClain emphasized that this year’s concerts will not be notably different from previous years.
“This year in particular, the GCDC is taking the time to learn how to run SummerSounds from Gene,” she said. “He’s going to be teaching myself and (Elsie Lampl, GCDC board president and interim executive director) how to run SummerSounds, so that next year, when we have to take over with the booking of the bands and getting all the information taken together, we will be able to do that for the future.
“SummerSounds has been so integral to the city,” she added. “It’s a name that’s been branded for the past 25 years, and we’re not wanting to change any of that.”

Concerts begin June 7, and run every Friday until Aug. 30. Performances start at 6:30 p.m. for the pre-show artist, and the headliner takes the stage at 7 p.m.
Opening bands Aubrey Burchell, Henry Bachorski, Adam Fitz, Marty Zundel and Hannah Newell are all returning acts.
June 7’s concert will feature returning artist Elton Rohn and his Elton John tribute show. June 14’s main event is the Bill Henry Band, an R&B, soul, funk and hip-hop group from Pittsburgh. On June 21, The Fabulous Gemtones, a Vegas style show and dance band, will be the headliner. On June 28, the headliner will be acoustic bluegrass and Americana band Nefesh Mountain.
On July 5, a Foo Fighters tribute band, Back & Forth, will be performing as the headliner. On July 12, Studio Two, a Beatles tribute band, will be the main performers, and The Claudettes, a jazz, blues, garage rock and punk band will return to Greensburg as headliners July 19. Funk and soul group Jocelyn and the Sweet Compression will be headlining the July 26 concert.
The English Channel, a British Invasion tribute band, will be the headliner for the Aug. 2 concert, returning to SummerSounds after several past performances. On Aug. 9, Run, Katie, Run, an Americana, roots, rock and country band, will headline.
Returning band Slambovian Circus of Dreams, a psychedelia-rock act, will be headlining Aug. 16, and fusion artist David Bach will return to SummerSounds as the Aug. 23 headliner. The last concert of the season Aug. 30 will finish out with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, featuring the 1940s big band sound.
SummerSounds strives to book bands from all around the region, state, and country, James said.
“The first few years, everything was local,” he said. “We have a kind of unwritten rule that we don’t book local acts for the headliners, because we want to be able to showcase people that you can’t see in Greensburg.”
