Seton Hill University sophomore Lucia Munoz wipes down kitchen counters Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020, at Saint Emma Monastery in Greensburg. Students were volunteering around Westmoreland County on Saturday as part of Seton Hill University’s “Take the Day On” day of community service in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.

Seton Hill University in Greensburg will honor Martin Luther King Jr. with its annual educational program and day of service.

The program will feature speaker Don C. Sawyer III, Fairfield University’s first vice president for diversity, inclusion and belonging. An associate professor in the university’s department of sociology and anthropology, Sawyer teaches sociology in Connecticut state prisons and supports individuals transitioning out of incarceration through a nonprofit.

He will speak at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Seton Hill’s Cecilian Hall, located on the second floor of the administration building. The event also will be livestreamed via YouTube, youtube.com/live/z5f_rXuEY-U.

Seton Hill will also host its 55th annual Day of Service on Feb. 15, when hundreds of students, alumni and faculty will help complete service projects at local organizations.

In years past, students renovated homes in Lowber and South Greensburg through Habitat for Humanity and deep cleaned a therapeutic riding center for people with disabilities.
