Students who want to pursue a nursing career this fall semester can apply for one of three scholarships worth a total of $96,800 to attend either the University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg or Westmoreland County Community College.

Redstone Highlands, which offers a variety of living options for senior citizens at facilities in Greensburg, Murrysville and North Huntingdon, is offering the nursing scholarships to full-time students, as well as one scholarship to a full-time student studying heating, ventilating and air conditioning at WCCC in Youngwood.

The nonprofit Redstone is offering:

• One full, four-year scholarship at Pitt-Greensburg, worth up to $17,500 per school year.

• Two full, two-year nursing scholarships to WCCC , each worth up to $7,200 per school year.

•One full, two-year HVAC scholarship at WCCC, worth up to $5,000 per school year.

Pennsylvania faces a nursing shortage, according to the Western Pennsylvania Health Care News.

“Redstone is committed to developing local talent by offering opportunities for students to further their education and find rewarding careers right here in Westmoreland County,” states Vicki Loucks, a registered nurse and vice president of Redstone Presbyterian SeniorCare.

Jason Rigone, executive director of Westmoreland County Industrial Development Corp., credited Redstone with providing the area’s future labor force with the opportunity to gain valuable experience.
