The Race for Grace, a 5K-run and walk around Norwin High School in North Huntingdon, is again expected to attract about 3,000 participants when the race starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, the race director said.

Race-day registration begins at 7 a.m., with breakfast available. Late registration costs $30 for adults and $25 for children age 12 and younger.

The opening ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. After the 5k runners and walkers start, a one-mile fun walk will begin at 9:10 a.m.

The children’s activities begin in the small gym at 10 a.m. and a speed painting demonstration by Norwin High School graduate by Cody Sabol will begin in the large gym.

The awards ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. Performances by Millennium Dance Complex Pittsburgh, Norwin Show Choir, and Ken & Jean Dance Studio will begin at noon.

The Race for Grace is held in memory of Grace Ekis of North Huntingdon, who died of brain cancer in 2008. The past 11 Race for Grace events has raised $1.16 million for pediatric brain cancer research and awareness and children battling brain cancer, said Ashley Metz Leax, the race director.

The Reflections Of Grace Foundation has given $587,000 to 407 families with children battling brain cancer and $400,000 to critical research aimed at finding a cure. Grace Ekis was five years old when she battled Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, a terminal form of brain cancer.
