A Monessen woman was ordered on Wednesday to serve two years on probation for what police said was assault against an unborn child.
Brooke Linn, 18, was charged last month with one felony count of aggravated assault of an unborn child, simple assault and reckless endangerment in connection to an incident on Sept. 10 in which a woman who was five months pregnant said she was kicked in the stomach following an altercation.
Authorities said the pregnant woman called police from a local hospital and reported she was kicked four times by Linn after a verbal argument between them turned violent. Police said Linn knew the victim was pregnant and had planned to attend her upcoming baby shower.
Linn was admitted into the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program for first time offenders, which allows her criminal record to be expunged upon successful completion of the probation term. She was not required to plead guilty to the offenses.
Melanie Jones, spokeswoman for Westmoreland County District Attorney Nicole Ziccarelli, said the victim and the baby are “doing well.”
“With the victim’s consent, ARD was offered to this first-time offender as well as additional parameters the defendant must complete,” Jones wrote in an emailed statement.
In addition to the probation term, Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court Judge Christopher Feliciani ordered Linn to under a mental health evaluation, complete anger management treatment and have no contact with the victim.
