Several black Angus cows that have been spotted roaming Murrysville during the past few weeks were seen Tuesday morning in a Trefoil Drive front yard, according to police.

Four of the animals were seen at 6 a.m. in the residential neighborhood off School Road South, according to a post on the police department’s Facebook page.

The Westmoreland County Animal Response Team has been working for the last two weeks to corral the animals after the small herd was first spotted in late April in southern Murrysville.

Animal response team coordinator Lori Mozina said the team was unable to successfully corral three of the cows, which last week were frequenting a feeding station set up on private property.

No one, including a cow, was injured April 29 when a vehicle hit one of the bovines on School Road South near Haymaker Farm Road, which is about a mile from Trefoil Drive. After the crash, police started receiving daily phone calls from residents who spotted the animals. Officials believe there are eight to 10 cows total.

Mozina said her team has been unable to find an owner. If no one claims the cows, once they’re rounded up “they will go to a local farm who also has black Angus cattle,” she said. “What I don’t understand is why everyone is so fascinated with these cattle?”

Mozina said this type of call is not unusual, particularly in the spring.

“Farm animals get out all the time, especially when it’s rainy and soft ground loosens fence posts,” she said. “It is unusual that no one has claimed them.”

Anyone who spots a roaming cow is asked to call Murrysville police at 724-327-2100, ext. 3. Police asked any area owner of Aberdeen Angus to do a headcount of their herd.
