An Irwin woman is accused by police of stabbing a man with a kitchen knife after he took her bottle of vodka.

Donna L. Rich, 55, is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment in the incident at an apartment in the 500 block of Walnut Street in the borough.

Irwin Officer Cody Stanoszek said he was called to the home at 5:06 p.m. Saturday for a report of a physical domestic altercation during which a man was stabbed in his arm.

Stanoszek said he was met outside the apartment by the man, who claimed Rich became upset and attacked him “when he took a bottle of vodka” from her to pour a drink.

“(The man) said Rich got upset and grabbed a kitchen knife from the sink,” Stanoszek wrote in court documents.

According to police, the man claims he was sitting on the couch when he was stabbed. He left the apartment and called 911.

“He said he still felt threatened and scared for his life,” Stanoszek said.

Rich was released from custody Sunday on $5,000 unsecured bond pending a preliminary hearing May 12, according to court records.

According to online court dockets, Rich recently waived her right to a preliminary hearing on charges of public drunkenness and resisting arrest filed by Jeannette police in an incident there Feb. 23. According to court records, she has a hearing scheduled June 30 on an application to enter the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition Program for first-time, nonviolent offenders in that case.

If a person successfully completes terms of the ARD, they may file a petition to have the case expunged.

Rich could not be reached for comment and did not have an attorney listed in court documents.
