Squirrel Hill physician and parenting expert Dr. Deborah Gilboa will speak Oct. 10, 2019, at Greater Latrobe Senior High.

Squirrel Hill family physician and nationally recognized parenting expert Dr. Deborah Gilboa will speak to parents and other members of the Greater Latrobe and Derry Area school communities on Oct. 10 at Greater Latrobe Senior High School.

Gilboa’s presentation is set for 7 p.m. in the school auditorium.

The mother of four boys, Gilboa’s insights into parenting and youth development are informed by personal experience.

Gilboa, popularly known as “Dr. G.,” led a presentation for Greater Latrobe school staff earlier this year, after impressing the district’s student council members with her remarks at a state convention.

Before her Oct. 10 program for their parents, Gilboa will speak to Greater Latrobe’s junior high and senior high students earlier that day.

“It’s a phenomenal presentation,” according to Greater Latrobe Superintendent Georgia Teppert. “We’re very excited to have her speak to us.

“She talks about building resilience in your children, and assisting them in making right choices and being accountable. She talks a lot about the importance of doing chores and things that instill that character in our youth.”

A camp counselor in her own youth, Gilboa has volunteered as an emergency medical technician.

The Bronx native was raised in Chicago and graduated in 1992 from Carnegie Mellon University, where she attended the School of Drama. She worked with The Second City improv theater in Chicago before attending medical school at the University of Pittsburgh.

She has appeared on nationally televised news programs and talk shows and is the author of multiple books, including “Get the Behavior You Want, Without Being the Parent You Hate!” and parenting activity books focused on her “3R’s of Parenting” — respect, responsibility and resilience.

She served as a spokesperson for a Pittsburgh Parenting Expo, held in 2014 in Monroeville.

Her website, AskDrG.com, includes online parenting courses and a blog with tips.
