Members of the Excela Westmoreland Hospital Auxiliary welcomed guests to lunch on Wednesday at the Greensburg Country Club.
Seated around tables decorated with gerbera daisies, attendees opted for a meal of chicken Romano, chicken salad or vegetable lasagna.
But the event was not just an opportunity to enjoy a good meal with good company. The group was assembled to recognize recipients of scholarships given out annually by the auxiliary to Excela Health employees and area high school students who are pursuing continuing education in a medical profession.
This year, the auxiliary awarded five $2,500 scholarships.
Award recipients included Mara Hudson and Ashley Svec, both 2020 graduates of Norwin High School. Hudson is enrolled at Penn State and plans to become a physician assistant. Svec is pursuing a master’s degree in cardiovascular perfusion at Carlow University.
Excela employees receiving scholarships are:
• Christie Lauch, a licensed master’s level behavioral health therapist in the crisis center at Excela Westmoreland. She is working toward a doctoral degree in psychology counseling at Chatham University.
• Alleysha Hauser, a technical partner in the Excela Westmoreland resource pool. She is studying to become a registered nurse at the UPMC Shadyside School of Nursing.
• Hailee Errera, a technical partner II on the 2AB unit at Excela Westmoreland. She is pursuing an associate degree in nursing at Westmoreland County Community College.
Honorees were introduced by scholarship committee chair Maureen Cutrell and co-chair Jennifer Kettering.
Scholarships are supported by the auxiliary’s annual Christmas auction and Spring into Bingo fundraiser.
Also at the country club: Joan Stairs, Darlene Nagrosky, Kaaren Tintori, Sally Anne Novak, Darlene Delaini, Karen Douglas, Linda Assard, Linda Harbaugh, Nora Kemp, Mary Rudolph, Linda Genard, Frieda Reamer, Roxie Sumner and Patti Buhl.
