It seems likely that folks associated with Greensburg Civic Theatre wouldn’t be shy about getting up to sing karaoke.
Still, the group provided an opt-out during its July 29 musical fundraiser at Greensburg Garden & Civic Center.
There was a $1 donation to sing a song and $3 to nominate someone else sing a song — and $5 for the nominee to get out of singing.
Luckily, there was no shortage of songbirds eager to take the microphone and serenade the room.
Among them was Kelly Taylor, who actually was there with her husband, Don, to proffer products from their Plum-based Bygone Wines.
Don said he can’t sing a note, but Kelly can’t resist a karaoke challenge, and he loves to hear her sing.
Glenn Smith of Glenndini Productions in Youngwood kept the tunes coming.
The event also featured an appetizer buffet and basket raffle, including prizes donated by the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers.
The event supports the troupe’s upcoming 71st season, including productions of its Greasepaint Players children’s theater.
The schedule includes “The Last Five Years,” Sept. 29-Oct. 1; “Elf Junior,” Dec. 1-2; “Cabaret,” Feb. 9-11; “The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales,” April 12-13; and “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time,” May 17-19.
Karaoke chair was Becky Zeigler Koch, with committee members including Mike Crosby, Craig Soich, Barry Shirey, Brandon Mosco, Emily Balizet, Katie HIllebrecht, Margaret Ryan, Missy Greenberg, Rachel Painter and Teresa Baughman.
Also seen: Steve Herda, Barbara Ferrier, Justin Williams, Chris Schaffer, Becca Mitchell, Melissa Raichel, Jessica Zach, Erik Smith and Timothy and Pamela Cooper.
