A North Huntingdon woman said her experience as a crime victim will be an asset needed to run the Westmoreland County Clerk of Courts office.

Dorey Stabile McCarron, 46, a Republican, announced her candidacy this week to run the courthouse office that oversees the filing of criminal court records and is responsible for doling out restitution benefits to crime victims.

McCarron’s father was shot and killed in Blairsville during a dispute over money in 1984.

She is the second Republican to announce a bid to replace outgoing Clerk of Courts Bryan Kline, who will resign this month to become the new warden at Westmoreland County Prison. Kline’s chief deputy Megan Loughner, who will become the acting clerk of courts on Feb. 22, earlier this month her candidacy for a four-year term to replace her boss.

McCarron, a U.S. Army veteran who served domestically from 1993-96, works as a coordinator for service repairs and client relations with a New York-based company that sells retail digital displays. She holds a master’s degree from Carlow University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

“I’m a fiscal conservative. I believe very strongly in transparency, openness, and customer service. I’m not using this as a stepping-stone for a higher office or position. I promise to treat this as a full-time job. After seeing what my mother and family went through after my dad’s murder, I promise no one will work harder for victims and taxpayers than I,” McCarron said.
