A New Alexandria man found with 8,000 images and videos of child pornography was sentenced to five years in federal prison and 10 years of probation for distributing the sexually explicit material, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Pittsburgh said Friday.
Senior U.S. District Judge Joy Flowers Conti sentenced Matthew T. Buchinsky, 36, who had pleaded guilty to one count of distributing material depicting the sexual exploitation of minors, according to court records. Buchinsky initially pleaded not guilty to two child pornography charges, but pleaded guilty to one charge on Thursday.
Prosecutors said Buchinsky distributed the videos and still images in May 2016 to other people using the Kik instant messaging software application. He had thousands of the videos and images, some involving infants, when agents executed a search warrant on his home in November 2016, prosecutors said.
Buchinsky, who was indicted on the charges in April 2017, was ordered to pay restitution to victims requesting payment, in amounts the court determines within 90 days of sentencing.
Conti said she hoped that Buchinsky would take advantage of sex offender treatment while imprisoned.
