A webcam recently captured a herd of deer relinquishing its ground to a group of invading wild turkeys in Murrysville.

PixCams of Murrysville has 13 wildlife webcams, including ones monitoring the Pittsburgh bald eagles nest in Hays, elk in Benezette and wooded areas in places such as Murrysville.

In the clip entitled “The Turkeys Prevail,” the deer are feeding and appear to be shooed away by the much smaller flock of turkeys, which didn’t seemed impressed or intimidated by the much larger size of the deer.

Playful interactions between deer and turkey have been documented for a long time, including by this BBC Earth video clip:

A 1967 article published in The Condor, an ornithological journal, said turkeys and deer “tolerate each other peaceably even in close proximity.”

Intermingled feeding groups of deer and turkeys are seen frequently, according to the article.

They also tip-off each other to danger, The Condor reported.
