A Mt. Pleasant man was arrested after police accused him of threatening to stab two borough patrolmen while they were serving a mental health warrant, and spitting on one of them as he was taken into custody.
Joe P. Biller, 36, was arrested on multiple charges after the incident about 9 p.m. Thursday at his Bridgeport Street home.
Borough officers Olivia Harshell and Mark Price went to Biller’s home to serve the warrant, but he refused to let either inside. Biller repeatedly threatened the pair and was “yelling profanities,” according to court documents.
When a family member attempted to open the door to let police in, Biller began striking the man. Biller retreated into the kitchen and “grabbed a pair of scissors” after the officers entered the home, Harshell said in court papers.
Police said he threatened to kill them and began stabbing the kitchen table, telling officers that he was going to stab them, warning “blood will be everywhere.”
As Price continued attempts to calm Biller, he spit on the officer and continued to yell threats, Harshell said.
The officers called Scottdale police to assist, but Biller refused to surrender. As Biller became more aggressive toward police, they employed a Taser to take him into custody and he was handcuffed, according to court papers.
Biller was arraigned Friday on charges of aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, harassment, resisting arrest and simple assault. He was ordered held in the county prison after failing to post $25,000 bond pending a preliminary hearing Feb. 23.
Biller did not have an attorney listed in court documents.
