Fire breaks out at home of 911 dispatcher in Derry Township

Emergency crews reported to the home of a Westmoreland 911 dispatcher in Derry Township after a fire broke out Friday morning.

Westmoreland County 911 said the fire started just after 12:10 a.m. at a home on the 2500 block of Raymond Street.

Four residents live in the home, along with multiple pets including several birds and dogs, Chief Mark Piantine of the Derry Township VFD Co. 1 of Bradenville told TribLive news partner WTAE.

One woman was transported to a Pittsburgh-area hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Piantine said the home is that of a 911 dispatcher who was at work at the time.

He said he believes the fire to be electrical in nature and started in the back of the home and broke through into a bedroom.


Charges filed in North Versailles hit and run

Allegheny County Police said charges have been filed against a man in connection to a hit-and-run crash Wednesday night that left another man in critical condition in North Versailles.

Keontae Hamilton, 38, is facing multiple charges including failure to stop and render aid, and accidents involving personal death or injury.

Hamilton allegedly struck a man with his SUV in the intersection of Greensburg Pike and Hyer Avenue, at about 8:40 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said the damaged vehicle was found in Wilkinsburg on Thursday afternoon and Hamilton was taken into custody.


Train derails in Fayette County

Clean up is underway after a train carrying multiple bed cars derailed Thursday night in Fayette County.

According to TribLive news partner WTAE, CSX officials said the derailment happened at 8:59 p.m. near the 300 block of North Water Street in Connellsville.

Three empty intermodal rail cars came off the tracks near Crawford Street.

Fayette County Emergency Management responded to the scene and reported multiple down power lines in the area, CSX officials said. Multiple homes were temporarily left without power.

Officials said no leaks, spills, or injuries were reported.

As of 6 a.m. Friday, West Penn Power said power had been restored.

Authorities have not released a cause for the accident.


Scratch-off worth $5 million sold in Allegheny County

Someone turned $50 into $5 million after purchasing a scratch-off lottery ticket in Allegheny County.

The Pennsylvania Lottery announced the winning Five Million Fabulous Fortune ticket was sold at Chocolate and Chances in Downtown Pittsburgh.

According to the lottery, scratch-off tickets are distributed at random and the Pennsylvania Lottery and sellers don’t know where winning tickets will be sold. The lottery learns where winning tickets are sold only after a prize has been claimed. Scratch-off winners have one year from the game’s end-sale to cash in on their prize.

Chocolate and Chances will receive $10,000 for selling the ticket.


1 injured in West Deer fire

Allegheny County emergency dispatchers said a person was taken to the hospital Friday morning after a fire broke out in a home in West Deer.

The fire was reported just before 6 a.m. on the 300 block of Inwood Court.

As of 8 a.m., crews were still on scene, dispatchers said.
