A 34-year-old Monessen man is in the Westmoreland County Prison on $75,000 bond after city police arrested him on accusations he assaulted three children left in his care, according to court records.

Darrelle D. Mott is accused of assaulting the children Feb. 17 at a residence.

Police said they were called to the home to investigate a report of injuries inflicted on a boy, 13. The boy told investigators that Mott had repeatedly punched and choked him.

“Officers observed injuries to the child’s face and neck,” Monessen officer Rebekah Shrader wrote in court papers.

While speaking with the teenager, police said investigators noticed “an egg-sized lump” on the forehead of a 3-year-old boy who was standing nearby. The boy told investigators that Mott had struck him.

Police also allege in court documents that they learned during the investigation that Mott also struck a 2-year-old girl.

The teen and 3-year-old were taken to Penn Highlands Mon Valley hospital in Carroll Township for treatment.

Mott was arraigned Friday on three counts each of endangering the welfare of children and harassment, two counts of simple assault and a single count of strangulation.

Police reported the county children’s bureau was notified of the alleged assaults.
