An Indiana County man who was invited to stay overnight at a Greensburg woman’s home in March was arrested Thursday by city police for sexual assault.

Thomas W. Swearingen Jr., 30, of Blairsville, is charged with aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault in connection with the alleged assault March 24 that occurred at the victim’s home.

The victim who was acquainted with Swearingen and let him stay at her home on Brown Avenue on a previous occasion, told police she invited him to stay March 23, but awoke about 3 a.m. the next morning to find him assaulting her.

Det. Sergeant John Swank reported that the woman provided police in March with text messages she received on her telephone from Swearingen apologizing for the incident.

“I’m sorry … I will do anything to make it right,” one of the text messages said,.

Swearingen was arraigned Thursday before District Judge Chris Flanigan and released on $30,000 unsecured bond pending a preliminary hearing June 6.
