The City of Latrobe municipal building, at Jefferson and Main streets, is seen on Sept. 26, 2017.

Latrobe Planning Commission members approved the removal of the R6 zoning category from the city’s official zoning map.

City Manager Terry Carcella recently informed the commission about the error, explaining that there is no R6 zoning category on the map itself. The R6 designation does not exist in the city’s zoning ordinance, and no parts of the city are shown under the category, but it was somehow added to the map key.

“How this happened, I have no idea,” Carcella said.

The city can only have one official zoning map and there are some in print with the R6 category included in the key, Carcella said.

The R6 designation is for single-family homes, but the city’s zoning already has R1 and R2 designations for those property types.

The removal will need to be approved by the city council after a public hearing is advertised and held.
