Car enthusiasts in the Latrobe area can enjoy antique automobiles, fellowship and giving back this Labor Day weekend.
On Sunday, Sept. 4, the Western PA Region Antique Automobile Club of America will host its 58th annual Paul P. Bell Memorial Antique Auto, Custom and Street Rod Show in Legion Keener Park, 1658 Catherine St.
Antique automobiles from 1939 to 2007 can register for the show, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Advance registration is $8, and registration at the gate is $10.
Judged cars, which must have a fire extinguisher, can compete in 18 classes. First-, second- and third-place winners of each class will be named.
For the first time, the regional AACA also will host a food bank drive during the show. Flo Myers, a Western PA Region AACA board member, said the goal is to fill her 1951 Ford pickup with dry goods for the Westmoreland Food Bank.
“When you do community outreach, people want to be part of that,” said Myers, who is from Latrobe. “We have a tremendous need.”
Attendees also can enjoy food vendors and an art sculpture giveaway during the event.
Myers hopes for good weather and a big turnout. In the past, the show has attracted people from as far away as Johnstown and Somerset County, she said.
