Jeannette duplex damaged in fire
A state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of a fire Wednesday morning at a duplex in Jeannette, according to fire Capt. Joe Matijevic.
Firefighters were met with flames on the first floor of the Good Street home at 7:30 a.m.
“The living room and dining room, the whole first floor, basically … were engulfed in flames,” Matijevic said.
A female resident was not home at the time in the portion of the duplex that was damaged. Two cats died.
Residents who live in the other side escaped. Their residence was not damaged by the blaze. No one was hurt.
The majority of the fire damage was confined to the first floor, and firefighters were quickly able to douse the flames. The second story had smoke damage, Matijevic said. Firefighters used tarps to block off broken windows throughout the house and sheets of plywood to secure other openings.
“It’s fixable,” Matijevic said.
