Irwin officials hired full-time and part-time police officers to replace two members of the force who recently resigned.

Council hired Stephen Novotnak of North Huntingdon as a full-time officer. Previously a part-time officer, he will be paid the starting patrolman’s rate of $25.62 per hour, plus benefits afforded in the Irwin police contract.

Novotnak replaces Kyle Morton, who took a position with the Pennsylvania State Police, Chief Dan Wensel said.

Justin Woods of North Huntingdon was hired as a part-time officer at a rate of $23.80 an hour, as set in the police contract. He replaces Cole Bertok.

In another personnel move, Charles Humes, the borough’s zoning officer, resigned.

Shari Martino, borough manager, and Stracie Santimyer, assistant manager, were named as temporary zoning officers.

Council also awarded a $219,742 contract to A. Liberoni Inc. of Plum for this year’s street paving program.

Liberoni submitted the lowest bid of $299,379 for the paving work, but all bids were greater than the liquid fuels fund, Martino said. The scope of the work was reduced to better match the amount of available funds. Council transferred $10,000 into the fund to offset the difference.
