An Irwin man was arraigned Monday on police accusations that he used a steak knife to stab a man multiple times, according to court papers.

Eric A. Perez, 39, is charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats and simple assault.

Borough police were called to Maple Street and Mulberry Lane at 11:30 p.m. Feb. 14 for a report of a disturbance. Officers said they heard yelling coming from a Mulberry Lane home and found blood on the front porch.

Perez appeared to be intoxicated, according to court papers. He claimed self defense during a confrontation with the injured man, who was stabbed seven times in the side of his chest and abdomen, police said.

He was taken to AHN Forbes Hospital in Monroeville for treatment.

Authorities said they learned that the two men had a history of possible violence. Witnesses told investigators that the injured man fled the home after being stabbed and Perez followed with the knife and threatened to kill him, according to court papers.

‘“You already did,’” police said the man told Perez, lifting his shirt to show the suspect his wounds.

Charges against Perez were filed Friday. He was being held on $75,000 bail at the Westmoreland County Prison. Perez did not have an attorney listed in online court records. A March 16 preliminary hearing is set.

He has been in the county jail since Feb. 24 on $1,000 bail on charges of simple assault and harassment stemming from an incident in the borough, according to online court records.
