There’s good news and bad news. The bad news is that we’ve arrived at Labor Day, signaling an unofficial end to summer. The good news is that a three-day weekend is coming up. Here are some fun events to take the sting out of summer’s close and help you enjoy the extra day off.

Pennsylvania Arts and Crafts Labor Day Festival

From Friday to Monday, the Westmoreland Fairgrounds will be occupied with a massive array of arts and crafts vendors. This is the 31st annual event.

Both indoors and outdoors, 200 vendors from 13 states will be set up. There will also be live music, a petting zoo and a variety of food options.

The festival will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at the fairgrounds, 123 Blue Ribbon Lane, Mt. Pleasant Township. Parking is free, and admission for people ages 16-64 is $6.50, $6 for people 65 years or older, $3 for children ages 12-15 and free for kids under 12.

Labor United Celebration

Northmoreland Park, 280 Markle Road, Allegheny Township, will be alive with celebration on Sunday and Monday. Both days will boast live musical performances, a large flea market and arts and crafts market, food, carnival rides and even bingo.

There will be fun and informative presentations about rescuing exotic animals from Exotic Edventures and shows by the Zerbini Family Circus.

The celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. Find out more at westmorelandcountypa.gov.

Hempfield Park summer concert series

It’s time to say goodbye to some of the fixture summer concert series this week. First up is the Hempfield Park Amp Up Your Summer Series, which ends this Saturday with a performance by SOURMASH.

The band will deliver a set of rock and roll influenced by Southern and classic rock. It is a popular and award-winning band in the Pennsylvania music scene and is sure to end the summer series on a high note.

The performance will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday in Hempfield Park, 220 Forbes Trail Road. Learn more at hempfieldtwp.com.

SummerSounds: Tommy Dorsey Orchestra

For the second concert series finale of the season, SummerSounds will wrap up Friday night.

The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, an extremely successful big swing band in the mid-20th century, lives on in its current iteration to bring those swingin’ sounds to St. Clair Park in Greensburg. They will be a bombastic and fitting finale for SummerSounds’ 24th year.

The concert will start at 7 p.m. with pre-show music beginning at 6:15 p.m., provided by Hannah Newell. Learn more at SummerSounds.com.

Main Exhibit Gallery 30th Anniversary Celebration of Art

The Main Exhibit Gallery and Art Center, at 301 W. Main St., Ligonier, is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a party. The event on Saturday will serve as the opening for their 30th anniversary exhibit, which will showcase new work from a number of artists that have been with the gallery over the years.

The reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday and is free and open to the public. To learn more, check out ligonier.com.
