Creative crafters from around the area will be in the spotlight on Saturday at the Hempfield’s first ever Homegrown Hempfield: Makers Market event.

The craft market, which runs in conjunction with the Amp Up Your Summer concert series in Hempfield Park, will invite 12 local makers to show off their wares to area visitors and customers.

The market will be open from 4:30 to 9 p.m. at the Hempfield Park Pavilion D and the area next to the amphitheater.

It will be held again twice this year, on Aug. 12 and Sept.16 with different vendors.

All of the participating makers must personally make or create at least 90% of the products that they sell, according to Marissa Haynes, Hempfield parks and recreation director.

“There will be individuals who do jewelry, candles, some artwork, woodwork, crafts, and things like that,” she said. “This is the first time we’re doing this, and it’s to support local artisans and entrepreneurs in the community.”

Food trucks will also be available during the event.

Registration fees from the vendors benefit the parks fund but proceeds from items sold go directly to the craftspeople.
