Hempfield school leaders are holding a special meeting Wednesday to update health and safety plans.
The meeting, which begins at 7 p.m., will update the athletic health and safety plan prior to a Thursday golf competition, which needs approval before “student participation in a competitive event,” Superintendent Tammy Wolicki said.
Previously approved athletic plans laid out guidelines for summer training, which was broken into three phases. The updates include guidance through the fall season, focusing on “normal” practices while introducing regulations for competitions like temperature checks, social distancing and how to transport students, plans show.
School reopening plans will also be updated to reflect new mask mandates released by the state earlier this month. The mandate requires students to wear face coverings at all times while in school with few exceptions, according to the state education and health departments.
Hempfield’s plans previously stated that students were required to wear face coverings while not socially distanced from others, like in hallways and on school buses. They were permitted to remove masks while at their desks.
The updated plans could be approved a day before students are set to return to school. Hempfield approved a plan that welcomes students back through a hybrid model, or a mix of in-person and virtual classes. The district also expanded their cyber program to elementary students. An update on the cyber program will be provided during the meeting.
In addition to updated the plans, board members will vote on several staffing changes and policy updates.
Meetings are posted on the district’s website, hasdpa.net.
