Hempfield safety officer, volunteer firefighter running for township supervisor
Michael Wolford is a candidate for Hempfield Township supervisor.
The 54-year-old township resident said he’s running to be the “voice of the community.”
In a statement, Wolford said he wants to hone in on issues like public safety, volunteer firefighter support, tax dollar transparency, job creation to retain Hempfield’s younger residents, and care for the township’s aging community if elected.
Wolford works as an environmental safety officer and public safety officer. He is an active member of West Point Volunteer Fire Department and Hempfield 2 Volunteer Fire Department, where he previously served as president.
He has also served as a paramedic and Occupational Safety and Health Administration instructor.
This is Wolford’s first time running for supervisor. His views align with the Republican party, according to the statement.
Wolford resides in the Wendover neighborhood with his wife and son. He moved to the township in 2004.
Two supervisor seats on the five-person board are up for grabs in this year’s election.
Supervisors George Reese and John Silvis’s terms expire in December 2023. Reese has announced he will run for reelection.
Supervisors serve six-year terms.
The primary election is May 16.
