A 57-year-old Madison woman was killed in a head-on collision Monday on Arona Road in Hempfield, according to the Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office.

Two others were hurt in the crash, according to township firefighters.

Dawn E. Coyne was pronounced dead at 12:32 p.m. at Excela Health Westmoreland hospital in Greensburg, the coroner’s office said.

Coyne was driving a 2008 Toyota Matrix north on Arona Road at 11:19 a.m. when a 2012 Ford Focus that was travelling south crossed the centerline in an attempt to pass another vehicle and collided with Coyne’s car head-on, the coroner’s office said.

State police said the southbound car was driven by a 17-year-old girl who was not identified in the report. Police said the teenage driver and a passenger in her car, Ahna Malik, 42, of Herminie, were both transported by ambulance to AHN Forbes Hospital in Monroeville for treatment of minor injuries.

Coyne wasn’t wearing a seat belt, authorities said.

Police said the teenage girl and Malik were wearing seat belts.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of Coyne’s death, the coroner’s office said.

Firefighters from New Stanton assisted, Hempfield Deputy Fire Chief John Storey said.

The state police accident reconstruction team was investigating.
