A Greensburg woman accused of attempting to kill a child will plead guilty but mentally ill at a hearing next month, her attorney said Tuesday.

Skye C. Naggy, 31, was charged in 2022 with 15 counts, including first-degree attempted homicide, attempted drug delivery resulting in death, attempting to aid suicide, child endangerment, kidnapping of a minor, aggravated assault and related offenses.

Police claim Naggy gave a dose of fentanyl to the girl. They said the act occurred hours after Naggy was released from an involuntary mental health commitment, bought the drugs and drove the child to a remote wooded area near the Loyalhanna Lake, where she intended to commit suicide.

Westmoreland County Common Pleas Judge Christopher Feliciani earlier this year rejected a defense request to have the charges against Naggy dismissed based on claims from two doctors who suggested she was insane at the time of the incident.

The same mental health experts found Naggy was competent to stand trial.

Assistant Public Defender James Spiestersbach said Tuesday that prosecutors agreed to allow Naggy to plead guilty but mentally ill, a designation that would require her to undergo mental health treatment in addition to serving a potential prison sentence.

Judge Feliciani said a guilty plea hearing will be convened in December.

Melanie Jones, spokeswoman for Westmoreland County District Attorney Nicole Ziccarelli, declined to confirm if the prosecution will consent to a guilty but mentally ill plea. Prosecutors said during a hearing earlier this year that Naggy’s case should go before a jury.

Child pornography and other sex-related counts filed at the time of her arrest were later dropped by prosecutors, according to court records.
