The Greensburg Salem School Board formally accepted the resignation of former member Rachel Shaw and began the search for a new member Wednesday.
Rachel Shaw announced her resignation last month. The board has one month to appoint a replacement.
The board will hold a special meeting to appoint the new member. The date of that meeting has not been set, but it will be before the next regular board meeting March 11.
Interested candidates should send a letter of interest to school board President Ron Mellinger at the district administrative office, 1 Academy Hill Place, Greensburg.
Shaw took a job as mediator with the state’s Department of Labor, which prevents her from holding elected office.
“She was a good board member, and she spent a lot of time on behalf of the community and the students,” said Superintendent Gary Peiffer.
Shaw did not attend Wednesday’s school board meeting.
She also resigned from her position as chairwoman of the Westmoreland County Democratic Committee.
Shaw’s replacement on the school board will serve the rest of her term, until the end of 2021.
