A Greensburg man was convicted of criminal charges related allegations that he recorded pictures of teen girls in a bathroom with a smart phone.
Following a nonjury trial this week, Carlos Alvarado, 49, was found guilty of one felony charge of attempting to record illicit images of a child and misdemeanor offenses of invasion of privacy and other related counts. Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court Judge Christopher Feliciani issued a not guilty verdict for one felony charge of possession of child pornography.
According to court records, a teen girl told police she found pictures on Alvarado’s computer of her and a friend in a basement bathroom. The girls appeared to have no clothes on below their waists, police said.
The girls found Alvarado’s laptop in a locked bedroom and later found an old smart phone in the bathroom propped up with a roll of toilet paper on top of a trash can, angled towards a toilet and partially concealed with a sock. The phone had been recording video for 13 minutes, she told police.
Police said the teen contended one of the videos appeared to show Alvarado’s face as he set up the phone.
According to court records, police searched Alvarado’s home in 2018 and did not find the Alvarado’s phone, laptop computers or charging cords.
Alvarado did not testify during the brief trial.
He will remain free on $80,000 bail pending a sentencing hearing that will be held in about three months.
